Just before the ice storm hit last week, we lifted the tarps from the piles of slumbering perennials and put all the flats back on the display benches. To the naked eye I’m sure it looked like a lost cause, nothing but dead leaves and branches and still-frozen dirt. But as the warm sun has been hitting the plant benches for the last week, the green shoots are miraculously and vigorously poking their way up to daylight. We still have lots of cleanup work to do to make them look their best, but this is the time of year that you really learn to appreciate the value of quality perennials grown in quality soil! We just hope that the little bunny who had made his home under the tarp has managed to find a new place to live.
